Music has been an integral part of my life for as long as I can remember. No matter what is going on in my life or around me, when I listen to music, perform, or compose, I almost always feel a certain peace and unifying spirit that transforms me. In composing and producing this album, I wanted to explore how music could be both a process and a goal for discovering this kind of inner peace — even if only for a moment — and I wanted it to also serve others in the same way.
For each track, I initiated the composing process immediately after meditating (I’ve been meditating my entire adult life). It was from that place that each piece emerged.
This is the shortest piece on the album. My goal here was to create a short musical soundscape to help the listener “settle down”. It can be used by itself to help you relax / get centered in about 4 1/2 minutes, or as a way to “open the gates” for a longer session of meditation, healing and/or contemplation.
Lessons By The Sea
I have always felt especially at peace at the shoreline. Often, this centering effect leads to my own “still, small voice” telling me something I need to hear. Enjoy the ocean sounds at the beginning and end that inspired the music within. The lessons are there if we only stop and listen.
Private Echoes (Part 1 & 2)
Sometimes, a beautiful melody can transform us and bring us to a quieter, more tranquil place. From there, it can sometimes feel like you are floating on a “sea of calm” and your thoughts seem to echo infinitely, though changing ever so slightly over time. And sometimes there is discovery (or recognition) of something you didn’t quite “see” or truly understand until that moment.
Journey (Part 1, 2, & 3)
There are journeys large and small — 5 minutes, hours, years or a lifetime. The attraction of a journey, for me, is that it is full of possibilities to be transformative, in many positive ways, while getting from “here” to “there.” I went on somewhat of a personal and professional journey in composing and producing this album, and this piece was the last segment of that journey. But this piece is its own musical, emotional, and spiritual journey as well. It starts off in a primitive, spiritual, quiet place and discovers its own intimacy, power and joyfulness along the way. I hope you enjoy the journey!
